“This has been a very difficult issue. A lot of noise has been generated and I don’t think its been very illuminating for the public. I am convinced that for the delivery of the quality of public services that are going to be required over the next decade that unitary is the only way forward. The Districts and the County both agreed on the need for unitary at the beginning of the process, the only argument being the timing and the size of the new council.” “I hope all involved, across the County, at each level of local government will now get on with how we can construct a new unitary council which can properly engage with local communities in service delivery.”
